12 CHANGES THAT HAPPEN WHEN WE GO FROM NOT LEADING TO LEADING

Being in the position of leading is quantitatively and qualitatively different from not, but how so. How is it different? Everything changes for a human being in that role. These statements or transitions are what changes when we begin to think about going forward well.

The fundamental and shared piece of every one of these changes below is with regard to relationships and responsibility. You no longer are only responsible for yourself. And, it is fundamentally based on the reality that leadership is about leaders….people, human people...who are broken and redeemable, taking on massive loads in our world. To prepare leaders well is to see these truths and to intentionally scaffold their development.

12 Transitions from Not Leading, to Leading:

  1. From your truth to shared truth

  2. From together to alone

    • Until you find your new people

  3. From authenticity to appropriateness (solidarity)

  4. From looking around to looking forward and looking back

  5. From blame to accountability

  6. From faking it to becoming it

    • Not fake it til you make it, but practice until you become it..and then practice again.

  7. From influence to responsibility

    • It is one thing to be an influencer, and another to be responsible.

  8. From strengths to blindspots

  9. From self service to self sacrifice.

  10. From simple principles to paradoxes

  11. From expression to exposure

    • It is one thing to express oneself and another thing to know that expressing exposes us - both successes and failures

  12. From “leading” yourself - to leading with others - to leading through others.

THE GOOD NEWS!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE - AND IT STARTS WITH US.

This is why we are here! It is an unbelievable opportunity to be called to lead others, but we are here in this together. And, the battle for courageous and sacrificial leaders will NEVER end. And, we are in this together.

If you feel like you are leading alone in this season - join one of our weekly, real-time leader development opportunities. The WiLD Conversation every Friday at 10 AM (PT) and Real-Time Coaching through the WiLD Toolkit every Friday at 11 AM (PT).
